A Mother’s Psalm…Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

Stephen and I volunteer for Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, a non-profit organization that provides a helping hand and a healing heart to grieving families after the loss of an infant. For families overcome by grief and pain, the idea of photographing their baby may not immediately occur to them. Offering gentle and beautiful photography services in a compassionate and sensitive manner is the heart of this organization. The soft, gentle heirloom photographs of these beautiful babies are an important part of the healing process. They allow families to honor and cherish their babies, and share the spirits of their lives.

I had the opportunity to photograph a maternity session with Danielle and her family after hearing the devastating news that their baby Wyatt would not make it to term. Here is her story in her own words.

“My husband and I found out at 18 weeks into our pregnancy with our third child that were having our 2nd little boy! We also found out that it was not in God’s plans to allow us to keep Wyatt as we hoped we would. He has been diagnosed with a condition that makes him “incompatible with life”, as we have heard so many times. We are living our lives in the balance of preparing for the worst, praying for a miracle, and trying to make a lifetime with Wyatt while he is still blessing us with his presence here on earth. The photo’s in this video were courtesy of a wonderful woman named Sabrina Dowdy and her website can be visited at www.photographybysabrina.com. Sabrina donated her time to take these special pictures for us. We were put in contact with her through a group called NILMDTS (Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep). These pictures mean more to our family than we would ever be able to put into words. It is our proof that Wyatt is a part of our family… We may never get a chance to take family pictures again while our son is alive. These will be treasured memories that adorn our walls for the rest of our lives. What a blessing! Wyatt, we just want you to know that Mommy, Daddy, Ansley, and Eli may not get to hold you in our arms very long, but we will hold you in our hearts for the rest of our lives! And thanks to Sabrina, your picture will be on our walls forever, so that people will forever remember you as our deeply loved little boy and baby brother!”
